Ward: Knightsbridge and Belgravia
Streets Affected: Bayswater Road
Project Type: Sustainable Transport (Buses, Cycling etc)
Project Overview
As part of the sustainable transport initiative, The City Council secured funding to upgrade sections of the London Cycle Network.
Improvements were on Routes 0 and 5 of the strategic network (LCN+) at the junction of Stanhope Place and Bayswater Road.
The improvements included:
- Pedestrian crossing facilities on Bayswater Road and Stanhope Place.
- New cycle crossing facilities in Bayswater Road.
- Mandatory contraflow cycle lane in Stanhope Place.
The scheme improves the safety of cyclists and pedestrians at the junction. The creation of a new cycle entry between Hyde Park and Stanhope Place provides a more direct route for cyclists and reduces the existing detour used at Albion Gate.
