Bridge Street Resurfacing

Bridge Street Resurfacing

Ward: St James's

Streets Affected:

Project Type: Streetscape

Project Overview

As part of the routine maintenance inspections carried out by Westminster City Council, the road at Bridge St has been identified as being in very poor condition.  The road surface is showing signs of cracking and failure and there are numerous trench reinstatements throughout the area which are exhibiting signs of failure.  In addition, a large number of service covers have been patched over with temporary tarmac which are also failing.

London Underground have also raised complaints about water ingress into the Westminster Tube Station, particularly during periods of high rainfall.  It is believed that some of the water ingress is coming from the failing road at Bridge St and the failing drainage in the area.

As a result, Westminster City Council are proposing to carry out a significant maintenance scheme to Bridge St on the eastbound direction only.  The works will comprise of deep excavations to connect the drainage in the area to the Thames Water sewer.  The road will also be resurfaced and the works are being coordinated in conjunction with UK Power Networks who wish to install new electricity infrastructure in the road.

The works commenced on 02nd February and the road was reopened to traffic on Monday 09th March 2015.  All works were completed on 10/06/2015
