Project Overview

Westminster City Council has commissioned its service provider, FM Conway Limited, to undertake public realm improvement works on the junction of Charing Cross Road and Great Newport Street as part of its Local Safety Scheme programme. The works will include the following:

• The introduction of a raised table at the junction of Charing Cross Road and Great Newport Street to reduce vehicle speeds;
• Kerb buildouts at Charing Cross Road and Great Newport Street junction to increase visibility between drivers and vulnerable road users, and reduce vehicle speeds;
• Improvement of existing pedestrian crossing points;
• Introduction of a “Copenhagen style” crossing at Little Newport Street to improve safety and promote pedestrian priority;
• Improvements to pedestrian footway space;
• Public lighting improvements, and
• Public drainage improvements.
