North Audley Street Public Realm Improvements

North Audley Street Public Realm Improvements

Ward: West End

Streets Affected: North Audley Street

Project Type: Streetscape

Project Overview

Westminster City Council has commissioned its service provider, FM Conway Limited, to undertake public realm improvements works on North Audley Street, to build on the successful elements of the outdoor dining and increased greening scheme that was introduced in 2021 on a temporary basis.

The proposed public realm improvements include:

  • Retaining outdoor dining to support retail tenants, with seating areas located adjacent to premises’ forecourts and managed through pavement licenses;
  • Replacing the temporary widened footway surfaces with high-quality natural stone to provide sufficient space for pedestrians, wheelchair users, and those with visual impairments;
  • Enhancing biodiversity by introducing improved planting and additional trees;
  • Installing a below-ground sustainable drainage system to help mitigate surface water flooding;
  • Introducing additional cycle stands to encourage active travel;
  • Making minor alterations to on-street parking and waiting and loading restrictions; and
  • Introducing a levelled pedestrian crossing facility at the junction of North Audley Street and Lees Place to enhance pedestrian facilities
