Jermyn Street Public Realm Improvement project

Jermyn Street Public Realm Improvement project

Ward: St James's

Streets Affected: Jermyn Street, Regent Street, St James's Street

Project Type: Streetscape

Project Overview

Westminster City Council is working in partnership with The Crown Estate to improve the public realm of Jermyn Street, between St James’s Street and Regent Street St James’s. The street’s rich heritage and distinctive character is home to many fine buildings which house specialist retailers and art galleries. However, over time the street has become tired, cluttered and is currently not in keeping with Jermyn Street’s worldwide reputation for high quality British artistry and craftsmanship.

The public realm improvements for Jermyn Street will widen the narrow footways, introduce quality paving using natural stone products, reduce the dominance of parked vehicles and introduce modern street lighting. All will result in a fully revitalised Jermyn Street, providing a much enhanced setting for the specialist retail, dining and hotel accommodation on the street and a vastly improved experience for visitors.

Outline Programme

The improvement works, which started in May 2017 are on track to be completed by Spring 2019. The programme is phased, with Jermyn Street divided into a number of sections (and each worked on in turn with occasional overlaps).

Phases 1, 2 and 3 were fully completed in 2017. The works were undertaken from eastern Jermyn Street (Regent Street St James's) to Duke Street St Jame's. In 2018, our service provider FM Conway completed works on Phase 4. Phases 5, and 6 are almost complete and will be resurfaced in 2019. Phase 7 is currently underway and will be completed in Spring 2019.

For more information about the programme of works please consult the project documents below or email us. Past project documents are available upon request.

Next Public Event
